TALERUM - Learning Danish by Doing Danish

چکیده

Talerum is an interactive L2 learning environment, here presented publicly for the first time. Talerum is designed for use in Danish language classes throughout the vast and sparsely populated WestNordic area. In a town-like setting (resembling Copenhagen) the pupil navigates among shops (foods, clothes, tools), a cafe, a school and, importantly, a home base where the game opens and the pupil is welcomed as an exchange student. Through elaborate dialogues with the game characters, the pupil discovers and pursues a secret mission. Talerum thus uses elements of game-logic, informal dialogue, and relatively deep semantic analysis to get and keep the attention of the language student of generation IT.

Does sound structure affect word learning? An eye-tracking study of Danish learning toddlers.

Previous research has shown that Danish-learning children lag behind in early lexical acquisition compared with children learning a number of other languages. This delay has been ascribed to the opaque phonetic structure of Danish, which appears to have fewer reliable segmentation cues than other closely related languages. In support of this hypothesis, recent work has shown that the phonetic p...

Learning and feedback from the Danish patient safety incident reporting system can be improved.

INTRODUCTION The perceived usefulness of incident reporting systems is an important motivational factor for reporting. The usefulness may be facilitated by well-established feedback mechanisms and by learning processes. The aim of this study was to investigate how feedback mechanisms and learning processes were implemented at four Danish hospital units all located in one of the five Danish regi...

Experiment 1 compared the VOT of /d, t/ and the F2 of /i, y, u/ as produced by native speakers of the three languages. Experiment 2 examined the perceptual assimilation of Danish [i, y, u] to native /i, u...

Transformation-based learning of danish stress assignment

In Danish, as in other languages, prosody assignment is fairly well described as a function of lexical and syntactic structure. So in principle, prosodic clue assignment should be open to machine learning techniques. This paper presents an experiment using transformation-based ML for unsupervised learning of Danish main stress assignment. The trained stress assigner is compared to the leading D...
